Design Inspiration and Research Development and game Concept: Assassin's Creed

Assassin's Creed is a game that takes place during the third crusade, and it ultimately is about assassins fighting the templars for freedom of the land. The game is set in real life citys, and has major real life figures in game. Most of the templars were actual people that did play some role in the third crusade.
The order of assassins is based on an actual group of assassins that did operate during the third crusade, and did preform public assassinations like you do in game. This group of assassins even had a real life fortress called masyaf, in which the assassins in game use as their headquarters. The ruins of this fortress still exist today.

The citys in the game are based off of old maps and documentations that survived the test of time. Some  iconic buildings are in game because they are still around today.

The character that you play is fictional and never actually existed, but several of the templars that you kill did in fact exist. For example, in game there the leader of the templars is named Robert de Sable. In game, you kill him in the year 1191. But in real life, he died in the year 1913. though this was part of the fictional world that is assassin's creed, it still incorporated real life people that existed in the same time period. In real life, Robert was in fact the Grand Master of the Knights templar.

Every assassin's creed game incorporates this real life element. From Robert de Sable, to the Borga family to George Washington. Assassin's creed draws inspiration from historical figures and time, and is heavily researched so that the game seems like it could have actually happened.

In assassins creed 2, you play as ezio auditore. This was a actual person who fell off the world at one point. There are records of his birth, and his apprenticeship under his father as a banker, but he just seems to stop existing somewhere in his mid twenties. In game, that is when he becomes an assassin.

Each assassin's creed game concern a major point in history and it shows that there is or there was this struggle on how to handle the world. The templars want control while the assassins want freedom. The two factions battle this out at the apexes of history.
The crusades, the renaissance, and the american revolution all are world changing evenets. Its during these events were the two factions clash, and there out come results in the way history plays out.
